Cannabis Enforcement Unit
Passage of Assembly Bills 266 and 243 and Senate Bill 643 established the Bureau of Medical Cannabis Regulation. The Cannabis Enforcement Unit (CEU) was created to provide sworn investigative services for the bureau. CEU is responsible for outreach efforts to local law enforcement (433 city police departments, 58 county sheriff departments, and 58 district attorney offices and various city attorneys) regarding government ordinances and zoning restrictions to identify the various enforcement models that currently exist in California’s cities and counties. CEU is responsible for assessing joint and coordinated enforcement operations and identifying current local enforcement policies or compliance efforts with respect to the regulation of medical marijuana dispensaries.
